I loved this fic like whoa, and I'm pretty sure I never left a comment because I was on vacation when I read it. TSK ME. But man, it was so good and cute. I loved both of their voices all the way through, I was really impressed with how their relationship progressed (that they didn't fall into bed like two seconds after having met each other (not that I would have minded! LOL)), and that both of them just sounded like guys all the way through. Idk if "cute" and "sweet" are disparaging for a fic about two dudes, but it was totally both. Merlin in particular. Like Gwaine said, Merlin is seriously fucking adorable when he's stoned.

A couple of my favorite bits:

The continuation of the quote above: Merlin is seriously fucking adorable when he's stoned. He's pretty prone to the giggles, interspersed with fits of lethargy that make him look like he's made of rubber bands, the way his lanky body unfolds to fill all available space. It's cute, Gwaine has no trouble admitting that.

(Sometimes he wishes weed didn't come with such a large side-order of introspection.) That was part of why I loved Gwaine--all the introspection :) and how he felt about Merlin. Gwaine feels like he should hate himself for being such an ass, but he can't even do that, some part of him insisting that it's amazing that every single person in the world doesn't feel the same way about Merlin. See? CUTE.

And you know what sort of baffles me about the Merlin fandom? I'm still pretty new to it, so IDK... maybe it's a British thing that I don't know about because I'm a silly American? IDK. But anyway, Merlin and Arthur and Gwaine and whomever, almost never use pet names for each other. Baby or babe or whatever. And I think I didn't realize how much I like them (in moderation) until they just weren't there, like, ever. Sooo I was particularly happy to see this when they were first having sex. "Yes?" Gwaine asks. "No? Merlin, baby, talk to me --" I swooned. Seriously. Like. Yeah. ♥ That whole scene was really great.

OKAY ONE MORE.

And really, if you can't declare your -- not love, but -- okay, love, in the absence of a more appropriate (less terrifying) word -- to one of your best friends on Valentine's day, when can you? Ha! Poor Gwaine. I just like... wanted to snuggle up in front of a fire with him through this whole fic.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this fic. I had such a lot of fun writing it that it felt really self-indulgent at times haha.

The pet-names thing is an odd one for me. I love it in moderation, but I always worry about going overboard. (Probably because I call about 80% of people IRL dude, babe or mate, haha.)

I'm really glad you felt Gwaine's introspection. He's kind of tricky to write as a teenager, but I think that kind of wistfulness he has in canon translates quite nicely to a thinky-stoner haha.

Loved this fic so hard. Love that you took the time to let their relationship grow and for them to nearly happen over and over until the time was just right. Them being all awkward teeny stoner boys (which I never appreciated enough when I lived with stoner boys, maybe because they tend not to wash as much as non-stoner boys), and so funny and *flails* I loved it, k?
